The idea behind offering this course is to give our last-year students a chance to improve their command of English, in particular in the broad field of measurements and instrumentation. Any branch of science uses its specific professional terminology, which in normal circumstances is not covered during ordinary language classes. The young graduate, even with fair knowledge of language, might have problems in understanding technical expressions when he starts his professional adventure abroad. I am writing this from my own experience, as I spend seven years in Universities abroad, lecturing in English, and I remember very well how difficult it was at the beginning.
The course is not intended to bring any new knowledge to the last year students, although it might happen, but rather through refreshing the subject to let them familiarise themselves with specific vocabulary and expressions. In order to achieve this I have included in text Polish equivalents of technical terms and less common words. A short dictionary can also be found at the end of this booklet.
